momatoes THE MAGUS & THE ORACLE

€49.00

Unlike many solo journaling games, The Magus is crunchy - you will use all your dice to play and control your character, for unparalleled structure to your narrative

Across your workshop lay curious mementos, these patient witnesses to a life colored by deep yearning. Was it for power? Gods, were you strong. Wielding fantastic spells to uncover stranger truths, or perhaps— to exert control on an increasingly alienating world. Or was it... For human touch? All this— for what? For connections that would barely quench your longing to belong? As you close this chapter of your life, you reflect on your storied past— all your scars and regret.

You are the Magus, the Wizard of the Lonely Tower, and with these pages you will remember your story.

The Magus is the book that will help you tell a unique story about the quest for arcane mastery and the loneliness of power.

The Oracle is the card deck that will inspire you as you write your journal - the ultimate artifact and yield of this game.

To tell the story, you will fill your journal with your character's spells, thoughts and memories. You can also sketch pictures, take photos, make a pastiche of other forms of creativity. Whatever you choose, you get to set the pace of the game, whether it's only a few hours or several weeks of play.

This game is driven by prompts, attributes, and dice rolls where you track your aspects and test your power against increasingly more difficult events. Make difficult decisions how to manage your resources and expend your power, or risk losing it all in a fiery calamity that swallows you whole.

Aside from the countless prompt combinations made possible by The Oracle deck, this new Oracular Edition of The Magus includes a set of alternate game modes.

  • The Hex: Pull the Magus’ loneliness out of the mists of old and thrust it beneath the neon lights of a modern metropolis.

  • The Two Towers: Play with a friend, turning the Magus’ diary into a bittersweet exchange of letters between rivals challenging each other at a distance.

  • To Serve the Lonely Tower: Play with a group, recounting the sad tales of all those who bind themselves to the Magus and put trust in their spells.

  • Magus Must Die: Brave the Lonely Tower alone, playing a line of Champions willing to die in order to topple the Magus at the top.
